Humpback whales migrate from Antarctica to the sub-tropical coastal waters of Australia to give birth and mate from late May to early November. Humpback whales frequently perform spectacular aerial breaches and 'sing' long complex 'songs' during the breeding season.
Each year at least 13,500 humpbacks migrate 5000km to the eastern coast of Australia. Humpback Whales are warm blooded mammels, they breath air on the surface of the ocean, bear live young weighing around a tonne, and nurse them with nutrious mothers milk. The pectoral fins of the Humpback Whale are up to 4 metres in length on either side, one third of the animal’s total length.
